Mountain Laurel Mandala II
by Shalena White
Mountain Laurel seeds and sewing pins, 2013
I aim to see existence from an enlightened viewpoint. Through mindfulness, one can recognize the sacred nature of even the most mundane things. This mandala explores the extraordinary potential of raw materials discovered and gathered in Austin. Texas mountain laurel seeds are embedded with precious information about their physical origins and cultural history. These remnants of nature are reframed as intricate works of art in order to highlight raw beauty that is often overlooked in our environment.
